I have been on many retreats over the years. You can go on a retreat that focuses on doing yoga, learning mindfulness, writing, travel, silence, creativity, cooking organic food and ones where you reflect, journal, read and just “be”.
I think you should go on a retreat as often as you can because you do not find your purpose in the busyness of life, you find it in stillness. You do not find clarity running your life on autopilot and you don’t discover the real you when your energy is being demanded by your family, your career and in the overwhelm of being a mother.
Being a mum gives little time for you to just be who you are. To have a moments peace, to drink a full cup of tea, to go to the bathroom with out balancing a toddler on your hip, to take a break from the never ending story of the laundry, cooking, cleaning … the list goes on. Here are 5 benefits to going on a retreat.
1 – Retreats are a time just for you and it is valuable time that is not selfish but essential for your emotional and spiritual wellbeing. A calm connected mother will have content happy kids. A stressed out mother will shout and live with guilt and regret.
2 – It gives an opportunity to learn new skills and tools to manage the ups and downs of life. To give you a different perspective so you can move forward with ease and grace.
3 – Retreats are a time of nourishment. Organic, vegan or gluten free food is challenging for you to maintain each day. You can feel it replenishing your body as you eat it. Food is cooked and served with love and you often eat meals together making friends and sharing your journey.
4 – Retreats provide you with silence so you can hear your own thoughts. You can re-connect back to you. You can fill up your cup with so much self-love that you can then give that love to others without feeling de-pleated.
5 – Retreats are a time of refection, of growth, a chance to enquire within, to seek the answers your soul desires and they are a time of transformation. Each experience is a chance to break down barriers and peel back the layers of our human psyche and evolve as a spiritual being.
6. Retreats allow you to share and connect with other mums who are likeminded and allow you to you are not alone where you are in your parenting journey. There are others going through similar challenges and joys.
I now facilitate retreats and I am honoured to teach mums mindfulness and how to reduce the stress of motherhood and experience more joy. My next retreat I have partnered with Dr Rosina from Win Win Parenting and Dina Cooper from Parents Leading Change.
The Relax, Reset and Re-Inspire the Mum in You retreat from the 15-17 January 2016 has been specially designed for mums to support positive change within your life for yourself and as a mum.
On the retreat you are going to learn the difference between self-ish and self-full. And how to not feel guilty when taking time for you. You’ll get a chance to rest and see what’s working and what’s not. You’ll learn strategies to manage even your biggest parenting challenges. You’ll have time to connect with yourself and hear other mums sharing their stories, and if you’d like to, sharing your own. Instead of nourishing others, YOU will be nourished with beautifully hand prepared organic and gluten free by Angie Cowen at Love Life and Gluten Free. You’ll return to your family happier, lighter and more confident as a mum.
